Add walnuts for a protein-packed breakfast boost!
Ingredients
1 | medium orange | |
1 can | tart cherries, drained, (or 1 1/2 cups frozen tart cherries) | (16 oz) |
1 cup | maple syrup | 250 mL |
1 cup | cherry juice blend or apple-cherry juice | 250 mL |
1/2 cup | coarsely chpped walnuts, optional | 125 mL |
Directions
Rinse orange; remove blemishes from rind. Grate rind until you have about 1/3 cup. Save remaining orange for another use.
In a large saucepan, combine grated orange rind, cherries, maple syrup and juice. Cover and bring mixture to a boil, then lower heat and simmer 10 minutes to blend flavors.
Remove from heat and stir in walnuts, if desired.
Cool, then cover and refrigerate. Sauce will keep 3 to 4 days; reheat before serving.
